About Civic Texts

Civic Texts is an independent publication launched in April 2024 by Alexander B. Howard, a long-time technology journalist and open governance advocate who has been recognized as a “respected trend-spotter and chronicler of government’s use of new media,” one of the world’s most influential people on digital government, and civic technology expert.

Most recently, Howard was the director of the Digital Democracy Project at the Demand Progress Educational Fund, the deputy director of the Sunlight Foundation, the Huffington Post’s first senior editor for technology and society, and O’Reilly Media’s Washington correspondent.

Despite his better judgement, he still posts, tweets, skeets, toots, grams, threads, and uploads media to the interwebs as @digiphile.

If you subscribe today, you'll get full access to the website, as well as email newsletters about new posts when they're available.

If you upgrade to paid membership, you’ll be entitled to special member-only events and experiences — AND your support will enable Civic Texts to continue to exist. Thank you!
